PEPSI – The Magical Potion that Submerges Your Inner Devil

I strongly believe everyone will have the experience of encountering fear. I do believe it is not an easy task to totally drive away fear. The objective of this article is to share with you about P.E.P.S.I, the magical potion that helps to submerge your dreadful feeling to an acceptable level, in order to avoid your fear crippling your daily plans and life objectives.

The ‘P’ ingredient in P.E.P.S.I potion is ‘Positive’. You are encouraged to embrace positive thoughts. Sometimes your mind may have been dominated by negative thoughts. You scare of doing something because you imagine something bad is going to happen after you perform it. For example, you may be afraid of flying because you ‘foresee’ you will be vomiting and feeling dizzy on the plane.  Due to your focus on envisioning the negatives, that is why you stop yourself from proceeding to the ‘possibly’ terrifying direction. This is the ‘imaginary fear’, a fear that exists due to the unnecessary imagination. Always tell yourself, the matter may not be as terrible as you visualize, do not fret, just do it! Instead, you should impart more optimistic visualization on the things you plan to do. For instance, imagine you are going to meet with friendly stewardesses who are going to serve you delicious meals, etc.

Filling our minds with grateful things we have received is another way to ensure we stay in the state of ‘positive’. Our fear will be diminished automatically when we try to unveil our gratitude concealed in us. For example, whenever I confront with the fear of doing something challenging, I will be thankful on having the chance to face the challenge as it is an opportunity for me to grow stronger and better.

Thinking about the things we are well-versed in can also enormously reduce our fear and boost our confidence simultaneously. For example, you may experience the fear when you are asked to join a singing competition. As you are already proficient in dancing, so you may treat your existing strength, which is dancing, as a stepping stone for you to try out this singing contest. In this case, you may encourage yourself, “If I can do this well, why can’t I do that?” or “If I already manage to overcome this obstacle, why can’t I jump over that hurdle?”

The ‘E’ in P.E.P.S.I. potion stands for ‘Express’. Express your fear to positive friends. They may be able to provide you some constructive suggestions that make you feel better. Even though they may not be able to provide any advices, but for sure they will listen to you. An attentive listener is good enough to reduce our inner ‘burden’. Just imagine, when you feel happy due to an achievement, don’t you feel you are eager to share it with someone? The same concept is applicable on the situation of having fear. If you let your fear permeate you alone, you may feel you are the only one surrounded by this fear. The ‘helpless’ emotion is the ‘killer’ that is going to intensify your anxiety. Thus, instead of fidgeting alone, I would suggest you may find a positive friend to talk to. Do take note, only positive friend. It is because getting the wrong person to talk to may end up in getting counterproductive result.

The second ‘P’ in P.E.P.S.I potion stands for ‘Preparation’. We may be baffled by the fear of uncertainty when we are going to do something we are doubtful about. In order to control this kind of fear, having sufficient preparation is significant. For example, if you have the fear of public speaking, do you think you become more confident after doing a more proper preparation or rehearsal before delivering your speech? If you have fear before sitting for an examination, don’t you think you become more confident and less fearful if you are well-prepared?

Next, the ‘S’ ingredient in P.E.P.S.I potion is ‘Slowing down’. Sometimes, you have to slow down your pace in order to replenish yourself for future challenges. Sleeping, physical exercising and playing some games are wonderful ways to flush away the sudden and unknown fear. Most of the time, we are focusing too much on the fear we have. Those ‘brainless’ jobs can help us to divert our concentration and slowly reduce our focus on the awful feeling.

Finally, the ‘I’ in P.E.P.S.I potion stands for ‘Imperfection’. Let us learn to accept the fact of not being perfect. Most of the time you avoid doing something due to the fear of making mistakes or confronting with failure, that is why you may procrastinate on performing the tasks because you are shackled by the thought of ‘making mistakes is no good.’ Whenever you are afflicted with fear on doing something, always tell yourself, it is absolutely okay to make mistakes. In fact, from the process of rectifying your mistakes, you grow to be a better and stronger person. Thus, whenever I encounter fear before delivering a speech, I will remind myself about this fact. As a result, I felt contented after I completed my speech each time because I know I have climbed to the next rung of improvement.

The P.E.P.S.I potion may not fully eliminate your fear, but the ingredients in this potion are effective enough to stop you cowering away from doing something due to the unnecessary fear. Let us ‘consume’ this potion in order to summon our courage to face the countless challenges in our life.
