What Does Christmas Mean To Me?

What does Christmas mean to me? An annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ? Honestly, I never thought of that purpose during the Christmas in the past too. (FYI, I am a Buddhist.) I believe most of the people have also forgotten about the true meaning of Christmas, unless you are a Christian. Most of the people would normally think about Santa Claus, receiving present, decoration of Christmas tree…that’s is pretty normal. For the past, Christmas Day simply means another holiday to me. I am sure everyone loves holidays.

Yesterday night, I participated in a pre-celebration of Christmas with my colleagues at Redbox karaoke entertainment centre. Below was the present I received – a set of Skin Food brand body and hair care product.

Frankly speaking, I love it very much. The reason I like about this present is not because of the product brand, but the sincerity of the person who prepared the present. Before the day we exchanged the present, we were asked to draw lots. The name that we picked in the draw lots would be the one receiving our present. The receiving person is not supposed to know who the giver is before the celebration. I like this idea very much. It enabled us to prepare a gift which was likely more suitable to the recipient. Before the celebration, CH (the colleague who bought me the present) had done some ‘research’ during the conversation at lunch time in an indirect way, but anyway I could ‘feel’ it. That’s why I feel this present was prepared with ‘heart’.

Right after the present-exchanging session, I could observe some colleagues might not be so satisfied with the presents they received. But personally I feel no matter what kind of gift we obtain, whether the gift is prepared meticulously or rashly, we should also feel happy and appreciated because we are still here (in this world) to be part of the Christmas celebration. The one who prepares the present at least pays an effort to search for something (even though it may not be something we are looking for) and then wrap it up. He/she may prepare it regardless of his/her hectic schedule. Shortly speaking, we should be thankful on everything we receive despite its tangible value. If we know to receive everything with gratitude, even the cheapest thing in the world would become very meaningful to us. Merry Christmas!!!
