It was 2.30 in the midnight. I and my friend Joe were driving on a highway with the speed of approximately 190km/h in a BMW. I am rather famous to be a “turtle driver”; I never drive in such a high speed before. This was the very first time I roared through the highway. Joe was sitting beside me and coaxing me to accelerate.“Don’t worry, during midnight, you can hardly find cars on the road, you can play around with your steering like the character in the Tokyo Drift.” Unexpectedly, an ever-disciplined person like me was susceptible to what he said at that moment. I slammed on the accelerator and instantly the car speed went high up to 220 km/h.
Suddenly, from the distance of around 100m away, I saw a headless silhouette standing still at the highway side. I felt the whole car was permeated by a strong sense of eeriness. The surroundings at the highway turned into misty all of a sudden. My heart beat turned very fast. I knew I needed to leave this spooky zone as quickly as I could. No matter how hard I trampled on the accelerator, we were still unable to escape from this mysterious zone despite the skyrocketed speed of the car. After about 10 seconds, both of us felt relieved as the mist disappeared abruptly. But, the most unforgettable moment was awaiting us in front.
The “headless silhouette” suddenly appeared in front of our car. He was actually a hunchbacked old man in white shirt and pants. I was trying very hard to stamp the brake pedal but my car was unable to slow down or swerve at that moment. Right before I knocked the old man down, a dazzling white light emerged in front of us until I and Joe were unable to open our eyes. Then, it followed by the blaring “pomp” and the car stopped. At that moment, we knew we already hit the old man and probably was a fatal collision. The impact of the collision had made my whole body afflicted with pain. My hands were shivering. I and Joe slowly turned our heads back with the intention of having a glance at the ‘possibly’ terrible scene behind.
I was horrified beyond words when I saw the old man left paralyzed and mute after being struck by my car and lying in the mid of the highway. The face of the old man had made the scene even more dreadful. His face was as pale as a piece of white paper. But we couldn’t discover any blood stain on the highway. I clearly knew that I was unable to continue driving. Joe said calmly to me, “We need to leave here immediately.” “No, we must send him…to the hospital, may be…there is still a chance to save him.” I replied in a shaking voice. Joe just ignored what I said and dragged me out from the driver’s seat. He became the driver and I swapped to the passenger’s seat reluctantly. Without hesitation, Joe sped away from the scene.
I knew very clearly that I had killed someone. I neither have any criminal record nor any minor traffic violations all these while. I thought I would be living in the fear of guilty conscience for the remainder of my life due to this inhuman felony I have just committed. I was really regretful on my immature rampage. Everything seemed to fall on me all of a sudden. I tried to slap on my face to prove that it was just a dream but to no avail.
We drove and stopped until we reached a forest. “I know a guru who secludes himself in this forest. He can help us…..” I was pretty skeptical about Joe’s words and wondering what kind of assistance could this so-called guru provide us. We parked the car and crept along a footpath into the forest. We halted when we vaguely heard the human voice from far. Subsequently, we noticed that there was a group of policemen who seemed to involve in a criminal investigation in the forest. One of the policemen was holding a reasonably big portrait. Unexpectedly, the person on the portrait was exactly the old man that we knocked down previously. We suspected the policemen were looking for this old man but the reason behind was left as a mystery. After about a minute, we observed one of the policemen whom was believed to be the leader of the group, picked up a phone call. After listening to the phone call, he demonstrated a very surprising expression and uttered loudly to the subordinates, “Mr. Johnny was killed. He was killed by these two persons.”Then, he pointed his finger at a photo of mine and Joe. “How can they know about us so fast?” My question left to be unanswered.
We tried to creep from the scene before the policemen were aware of us. Unfortunately, I accidently stepped on a frog and the frog croaked. The croaking sound had captured the attention of the policemen. The policemen started to chase after us. Suddenly Joe had disappeared behind a tree and left me alone of being chased. My exhausted and aching body crippled my elusion from the policemen. I could hear the steps had become nearer and nearer and suddenly my shoulder was being seized by one of the policemen.“Stop running!” The policeman shouted. “No!!!” I screamed audibly.
I was being shaken. I gradually opened my eyes and saw my mum. “What happened to you? Terrified by a nightmare?” I stared at the ceiling for a few seconds. I was having a nightmare? I realized why I experienced the body pain in my nightmare, as yesterday I had a badminton game with my friends. My body muscle got stretched as I didn’t play badminton for so long before yesterday. Luckily, it was just a nightmare.

Have you ever thought of killing someone? In this nightmare, I was playing a hit-and-run role. But my guilty conscience whispered to me that I would regret for the whole life if I didn’t surrender myself to the police. But I was in the dilemma as my friend encouraged me not to surrender myself. You may never think of killing people. But have you ever thought that you may be killing someone with words even without using any weapon? Killing people with words is as serious as killing people with weapon. Never belittle the power of killing someone with your verbal negative statements. A few wrongly spoken words may devastate a person’s life. If someone is trying to ‘kill’ you with his/her words, what are you going to do to overcome this situation? Explore the answer here.
Last week, when I logged on to Yahoo Answers, I accidentally saw a question raised by a depressed man. In his question, I observed that he had planned to commit suicide, as he believed the insurance plan that he purchased could possibly bring a more comfortable life for his wife. He was unwilling to let her wife staying in poverty. He tried to ask for opinions whether should he tell his wife about his planning or just leave the world secretly. I was shocked to see this question. I didn’t answer the question immediately, as I thought I needed to plan properly on what were the correct words to use without further hurting the asker. Of course, I was planning to provide an answer with the intention of convincing him to abandon this extremely negative idea. I knew if I expressed the wrong words, I might influence him to make a wrong decision. The first answer I saw on the list was absolutely a negative answer. The answer sounded this way, “Yes, your life is really terrible!” This person was undeniably trying to ‘kill’ someone with words. After about 10 minutes, I viewed the same question again. I was surprised to see a list of new and positive answers that tried to persuade him that he was having a bad idea. I felt relieved after seeing all these answers and I ended up not posting my meticulously-planned answer, as I felt the existing answers were good enough to make him feel better and hopefully could omit his idea of committing suicide.
Executing a crime like killing people is a gruesome experience. Most of us may not have this kind of experience, except in a nightmare. But in reality, we may accidently commit this crime due to wrongly-expressed words, such as incorrect accusation. Sometimes, we may think a few negative sentences are not powerful enough to topple someone, but what about a lot of hurtful statements? This particular person may be facing a lot of negative impacts in life, ranging from unsuccessful relationships, poor health condition to substandard treatment at work place. These negative issues may have accumulated a lot of negative feelings in this particular person. Imagine it is like a balloon, if you blow a little bit of air, the balloon may not burst. If everyone blows in some air, the balloon will become bigger to a certain extent, it will surely explode. Assuming you are the last person casting something negative to a dispirited person, you probably become the person who leads him/her to the decision of ending his/her precious life. If this situation does happen, most likely you will be plagued by insomnia for the rest of your life. Killing people is something scary, please be extremely careful when you speak and of course when you drive.
